There is daily construction on the main street in Ojai near me. It means I am using a detour to turn off my street. I noticed I was getting annoyed so yesterday I stopped and talked to the workers as they were setting up. I thanked them for what they are doing (repairing gas lines) and told them I appreciated they were enduring the very high temperatures all day in the sun to keep us safe. It was a sweet interaction and it lifted any impatience I have had with the inconvenience. Simply saying thank you is the shift.
I would love to do this kind of shift with my noisy neighbors but by now they have been playing music so loud that I’m afraid they are flat deaf! But I love reading this one as it is a reminder that caring and kindness can do miracles!
